After a breakfast buffet it was time to meet our bus driver Yannis and the big purple tour bus. Bags packed and loaded onto our bus we drove across the city to meet Faye once again for a tour of the National Archaeological Museum. Faye took us through the various rooms of Greek art and artifacts explaining their significance. As with the Acropolis Museum yesterday, there is so much to see and learn. I especially liked the beautiful statues throughout the museums. Before the doors of the museum opened I saw my first Greek Pug! Of course missing my Pug Annie, I had to go over to pet and take a picture of him. I noticed Brad (husband of my Buddy Jennifer) was also heading to the dog. Sure enough, they have a Pug back home, too! |

It was a 4-hour drive from Athens to Delphi, but didn't seem that long. Our group was small enough that most people had their own seats on the bus which was nice not to be packed in like sardines. The drive was divided up with a coffee break and lunch. At our first stop I had baklava. WOW - the baklava was out of this world! It was so much better than any baklava back home. We checked into Hotel Leto before heading out to the ruins of Delphi. Colin introduced us to local guide Penny who showed us the Archaeological Museum of Delphi and later the archaeological site. What a wonderful afternoon to explore Delphi. We walked up to the theater and the views were magnificent. Colin told us we had the rest of the afternoon free until dinner. I walked alone back to the museum. It was so silent except for the occasional breeze rustling by and the afternoon light was perfect. This only added to the to the mystical feeling of the ruins. Our group dinner was in a quaint restaurant overlooking the valley and the Gulf of Corinth. Another lovely evening spent sharing a meal with new found friends. |
